Buy Spurge Control and Spurge Killers
Spurge is a very common weed to find on your property in mid to late summer. Whether it’s coming through cracks in your driveway, creeping across your flower beds, or taking over the curblines and thin, drought-stricken parts of your lawn, spurge can be found wherever there is a lack of competition and very high heat. While some popular crabgrass pre-emergents claim to have success controlling spurge, we find that control to be fairly limited with post-emergent weed killers necessary at some point in the season. The good news is spurge is not particularly hard to kill and so most common selective broadleaf herbicides will get the job done. The best way to prevent spurge in your lawn will always be through proper cultural habits- mow high to keep soil temps down, water deeply but infrequently to keep your turf healthy, and aerate and overseed every year to ensure turf density. Thick, healthy turf will prevent spurge from ever being a major issue in your lawn. Beyond that, pre-emergents focused on broadleaf weeds (rather than on preventing crabgrass) can help prevent spurge issues in flower beds and other areas. When looking for how to control spurge, realize that there are short term solutions with herbicides as well as long term solutions through building turf health.
