Scythe is a non-selective organic-based contact herbicide that provides quick burndown of leaf tissue. Because Scythe only affects the leaf tissue it comes in contact with, it does not translocate to the root and often times plants re-emerge, however its ability to quickly break down cell membranes of leaf tissue makes it a great product for burndown of overgrown areas without the need to then reseed for erosion prevention, as roots stay intact and plants will regrow. One benefit is the fact that Scythe is derived from fatty acids and an organic-based product (though not OMRI organic certified). Scythe is an excellent option for weed control around tree roots of species that are easily damaged from traditional weed controls, such as beeches, Japanese maples, dogwoods and others. When applied at a lower rate along with other herbicides such as glyphosate, you can control root of plants while also quickly removing top-growth.
-A non-selective contact herbicide which quickly penetrates and desiccates green leaf tissues.
-Provides burndown only of growing green leaf tissues and is not translocated through the plant.
-Provides burndown of broadleaf weeds, grasses, most mosses and other green plant tissues.
-Roots and non-green, woody parts of mature plants are not affected.
-Does not have any residual activity at all.
-Utilizes organic based acids found in many organic herbicides.
-A safe option for control of weeds around the roots of trees susceptible to herbicides.
-Can be a great tank-mix partner with Roundup to provide quick visual control of plants. Due to Scythes exceptionally quick burndown results, it is best to apply Scythe at a low rate in this situation so that the Roundup(glyphosate) can be taken into the plant before leaf desiccation begins. Seeding windows are not affected by this combination as they can be with other herbicides often tank mixed with Roundup.
